CWLOA TRAINING AND RATING CLINICS

What are the levels of CWLOA Ratings?

Collegiate officials must maintain a 3-year rating in order to officiate collegiate games. The rating levels for CWLOA Officials are as follows:

  • Collegiate
  • Collegiate Select
  • National Elite

How do officials move into Collegiate Officiating?

  • New officials moving from the USAL ratings or those with college play experience wishing to officiate at the Collegiate level must attend a Transitional Clinic. This level of clinic offers officials a focus on mechanics, three person positioning, and NCAA rules.
  • Officials who earn a recommendation to stand for a Collegiate Rating at a Transitional Clinic may then move to a Collegiate Clinic to earn a Collegiate Rating.
  • Officials who do not earn a recommendation to stand for a Collegiate Rating may attend another Transitional Clinic.
  • For more information about CWLOA ratings, contact your Regional Coordinator.

What is a Transitional Clinic

This clinic is for new officials who would either like to officiate at the college level or those who currently officiate some college games. Officials must start at this level to receive a recommendation to attend a Collegiate Training & Rating Clinic. The emphasis of the Transitional Clinic is on 3 person positioning, consistently making calls relating to the safety of the game, officiating mechanics and the differences in the NCAA rules and USL rules. Once a recommendation has been received the official may attempt to achieve the Collegiate rating through a spring season to clinics offered the next fall. (i.e., Transitional Clinic recommendation received Summer 2023, Collegiate rating must be attempted by Fall, 2024.
